DP Etiquette

First rule: Don't be a jackass. Most people are good.

Other rules: Do not attack or insult people you disagree with. Engage with facts, logic and beliefs. Out of respect for others, please provide some sources for the facts and truths you rely on if you are asked for that. If emotion is getting out of hand, get it back in hand. To limit dehumanizing people, don't call people or whole groups of people disrespectful names, e.g., stupid, dumb or liar. Insulting people is counterproductive to rational discussion. Insult makes people angry and defensive. All points of view are welcome, right, center, left and elsewhere. Just disagree, but don't be belligerent or reject inconvenient facts, truths or defensible reasoning.

News bit: Once again, DJT gets off the hook as US justice system collapses

The Hill reports:
Appeals court pauses $464M judgment in Trump’s
New York fraud case

A New York appeals court on Monday temporarily stopped the clock on the looming enforcement of a multimillion-dollar judgment against former President Trump and his company over deceitful business practices.

In a terse order, a five-judge state appeals court panel said it would pause the enforcement of the $464 million judgment against Trump, the Trump Organization and top executives, plus interest, if within 10 days they post a $175 million bond.
New York Attorney General Letitia James’s office had urged the state appeals court to make Trump put up a full bond before pausing the eye-popping judgment.

The office argued that there is no rule limiting Trump to a single bond from a single surety for the full judgment amount. Instead, he could seek several bonds to limit “any individual surety’s risk” and still post the full amount, they said.

The appeals court order Monday also paused the enforcement of other penalties, including those barring Trump and top executives from serving in top leadership positions in New York businesses for several years.
What can one say? It looks increasingly likely that DJT will never face any serious consequences for his treason and crimes. Maybe he will get a wrist slap or two and a stern talking to, but that is about all.

Q: Is the US system of justice (i) in full-blown collapse or close to it, (ii) just fine and dandy or close to fine and dandy, or (iii) something in between?

Going woke, one mind at a time; CN hate & lies du jour; A restraint on social media poison?

Several sources are reporting that US senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) has gone woke about DJT. CNN reports:
Sen. Lisa Murkowski, aghast at Donald Trump’s candidacy and the direction of her party, won’t rule out bolting from the GOP.

The veteran Alaska Republican, one of seven Republicans who voted to convict Trump in his second impeachment trial amid the aftermath of January 6, 2021, is done with the former president and said she “absolutely” would not vote for him.

“I wish that as Republicans, we had … a nominee that I could get behind,” Murkowski told CNN. “I certainly can’t get behind Donald Trump.”
Wow, it took her this long to see the blatantly obvious? Bravo Lisa, do it again! (sarcasm)

If I recall right, Murkowski, along with Maine senator Susan Collins, were reassured by DJT’s morally rotted Supreme Court nominees that abortion rights protected by Roe v. Wade would remain viable law. At the time, I thought, OMG!! How freaking blind, clueless and tribal are these people, or are they cynical liars, just plain stupid or some combination? At the time, cynical liar seemed to be the single best explanation. Now maybe the best explanation is blind, clueless and tribal coupled with stupid.

That is the problem with trying to get into the minds of people doing politics. They lie as easily as they breathe. Some of them are shockingly ignorant to the point of being literally stupid. Oh well, the quest for insight and knowledge continues.

Christian nationalism (CN). What can one say. Sacred CN poison, hate, bigotry, mendacity, hypocrisy, corruption, sexual perversions (yup, I said it -- and do mean perversions) and lust for Christian Sharia theocracy are all out in the open now. Most everyone can see it for what it is. Well, maybe not Murkowski, Collins and the clueless. Who knows what they can see, if much of anything.

Mediaite reportsKellyanne Conway Claims Democrats Are ‘Hostile to Religion’ and Are ‘Jogging and Having Brunch’ Instead of Attending Church -- Fox News contributor Kellyanne Conway said Democrats are hemorrhaging non-White voters thanks in large part to their “hostility to religion.” “Now, the other thing that’s so interesting about this – particularly with the minority groups, Kellyanne – there’s a cultural point here,” host Larry Kudlow said. “They’re tired of the Democrats’ woke[ness] and cancel culture and no Americana, no American history, and so forth. That whole story has backfired on Democrats. And these are working folks, right? These are Latinos, these are African Americans.”

As time passes, I increasingly want to cancel (i) Faux News lies and slanders, (ii) fake CN American history, and (iii) TTKP (Trump Tyranny & Kleptocracy Party) lies, sleaze & slanders.

CN operatives are hypocrites. They are deeply insulting, shamelessly mendacious and profoundly threatening to normal Americans, including real Christians. They have declared all-out war on respect for us regular people, and on truth, reason, our democracy and our civil liberties. I want all of their tax breaks revoked.

Reuters reports about a possible private sector-imposed restraint on the lies, slanders, crackpot conspiracy theories and the like on the Reddit social media platform. This one is a puzzler. Reuters reports:
Reddit may need to ramp up spending on
content moderation, analysts say

Reddit will need to spend heavily on content moderation as it may face greater scrutiny as a public company, analysts said, threatening its longstanding policy of relying on an army of volunteers to maintain order on its platform.

The newly listed company warned in its initial public offering (IPO) paperwork that its unique approach to content moderation can sometimes subject it to disruptions like in 2023, when several moderators protested against its decision to charge third-party app developers for access to its data.

Depending on volunteers is not sustainable, given the regulatory scrutiny that the company will now face, said Julian Klymochko, CEO of alternative investment solutions firm Accelerate Financial Technologies.

“It's like relying on unpaid labor when the company has nearly a billion dollars in revenue,” he added. Reddit reported revenue of $804 million in 2023, according to an earlier filing.
Reddit will need to make substantial investments in trust and safety, which could lead to a “dramatic” rise in expenses, Klymochko said.
A spokesperson for Reddit said that alongside moderators, it also had robust internal safety teams, which used a combination of artificial intelligence, machine learning and human review to enforce its content policy.
The company would need to ramp up spending on anti-misinformation efforts especially as the U.S. prepares for the presidential election later this year.
If Reddit needs to limit toxic content to keep advertisers, why doesn’t that same pressure apply to X, Facebook, YouTube, DJT’s Lies Antisocial” and other social media platforms? It is possible there is a limit to the darkness, immorality and evil that advertisers will tolerate? This baffles me. Maybe there is a ray of hope somewhere in the toxic mess called social media.

APOCALYPSE NOW!

The Great Tribulation, Fourth Turning, Seventh Seal or All 3

APRIL 2024: All the Signs and Omens point
to the Commencement of the End Times
Donald Trump

Donald Trump was born on June 14, 1946—the night of a total lunar eclipse. Both his temperament and the way he projects publicly reflects the astrological affects of such an afflicted birthday chart.

Joe Biden

Joe Biden’s birth chart shows that he has 4 planets (Sun, Mercury, Venus, & Mars) in Scorpio as follows.  He also has two planets in Gemini.

These planet placements and other key configurations and transits reveal a character who will say and do anything — ANYTHING — whatsoever to advance his very narrow and self-interested scorpionic [SATANIC] agenda.

First, look at how the communist-run Democrat Party completely destroyed Trump’s presidency at every turn.

Then consider the COVID-19 biowar waged against the American people in 2020, as well as the weaponized Covid ‘vaccines’ since the end of that same year.  The Covid killshots, clotshots and cancershots will be killing Americans for decades to come.

Then there was the most brazenly stolen POTUS election in November of that same year followed by the COINTELPRO-staged J6 entrapment scheme of 2021 run by the U.S. Intelligence Community.

However, what we are seeing with the April 8th total solar eclipse is a withering campaign of predictive programming and social engineering the likes of which the US citizenry has never been exposed to.  The entire Mainstream Media has never been so determined to get every single American outside to watch this quite dramatic daytime blocking of the solar rays.  Remember the dark side knows the secret workings of astrology, numerology, alchemy, geomancy and all the other occult arts and sciences.

Hence, TPTB really want everyone on planet Earth staring at this eclipse for as long as possible as it will greatly facilitate the next phase of their New World Order implementation plan and especially the long planned Great Reset.

Lastly, as if that’s not enough to deal with, there is also the 2024 return of the ‘horned’ comet 12P/Pons-Brooks also known as the Devil’s comet.  In fact, this comet is forecast to reach the brightest point in its 2024 apparition on 21 April, which makes for an exceptionally interesting and explosive month of April.

Ignorant voters = authoritarianism?; What is antisemitism?

A NYT opinion (not behind paywall) by David French opines:
It’s not often that a poll result causes me to do a double take. This month, however, a Pew Research Center survey grabbed my attention. As part of a comprehensive poll on the importance of religion in public life, Pew compared Americans’ knowledge of and support for Christian nationalism between September 2022 and February 2024 and found no meaningful change at all. The exact same percentage of Americans said they’d heard or read about Christian nationalism — 45 percent in 2022 and 45 percent in 2024. The exact same percentage of Americans said they’d never heard or read about Christian nationalism — 54 percent in both years.
The more I thought about it, though, the more I realized my surprise was misplaced. .... The Hidden Tribes of America project, which was put together by a group called More in Common. It surveyed 8,000 Americans to try to explore their attitudes and conflicts beyond the red-blue divide, and one of its central conclusions is critical to understanding the modern moment: Only a minority of Americans are truly active in political debates, and they’re exhausting and alienating the rest of the country.

One-third of Democrats post political content on social media; two-thirds do not. And the differences between the two groups were significant. Online Democrats were far more liberal, disproportionately white and far more likely to engage in activism, such as attending a protest or donating to a candidate. .... The highly polarized left and the highly polarized right shared characteristics. For example, the most polarized conservatives are also disproportionately white and are almost twice as likely to list politics as a hobby.

One friend told me, “I got sick of the constant rage.” So he deleted his social media accounts, turned his cable television from Fox News to ESPN and never looked back. “My blood pressure is down,” he said, “and I’m a better husband and father.” Good for him, I thought, but bad for us. Another decent man has disengaged. Another member of the jury has left the courtroom.
What is one to make of this? People disengage because of the ferocious emotional and mendacious games that Faux News and other authoritarian radical right (ARR) sources routinely employ to divide, deceive, distract, polarize and otherwise de-rationalize people. It drives some people away. That is one of the key things what the elites that drive America’s ARR wealth and power movement want, along with bad things like fomenting irrational deceit, distrust and polarization.

Q: Does this opinion strike you as unreasonably bothsidesism (false balancing) by roughly equating the left and the right, or is it just me who sees it that way?

In view of endless, bitter controversy, it seemed reasonable to think that antisemitism is an essentially contested concept. Apparently some others have come to the same conclusion. The NYT writes:
Definitions of the term are highly contested, so a group monitoring antisemitism on Columbia University’s campus has avoided picking sides. It is still facing criticism.

A Columbia University task force set up to combat antisemitism on campus in the wake of the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks is attempting to avoid one of the most contentious issues in university debates over the war: Its members have refused to settle on what the definition of “antisemitism” is.

Competing factions on campus and beyond are pushing for two different definitions. The first, favored by the U.S. State Department and many supporters of Israel, says “targeting of the state of Israel” could be antisemitic, a definition that could label much of the pro-Palestinian activism sweeping campus as antisemitic.

The second is narrower. It distinguishes between anti-Zionism and antisemitism and could lead to criticism that the school is not taking antisemitism seriously enough.

The debate over the definitions has become a lightning rod for the Columbia task force and for other universities around the country. The task force is charged with “understanding how antisemitism manifests on campus” and improving the climate for Jewish faculty and students. But the refusal to pick a definition has also been met with harsh criticism on both sides.

“If you don’t diagnose the problem, you don’t have to deal with it,” said Shai Davidai, a Columbia professor who is Israeli and favors the more sweeping definition. He added, “Saying we don’t want to define it so we don’t have a problem, that’s copping out.”

Pro-Palestinian and anti-Zionist faculty and students, quite a few of whom are Jewish, fear that without a definition, the antisemitism task force could be too sweeping in the speech and activity it seeks to regulate.
My intuition is that distinguishing between anti-Zionism and antisemitism is better than not distinguishing, but even that alone might not be sufficient for a definition. But since I am too ignorant of too much related to Israel and Palestine, leaving the definition up to experts seems to be reasonable. Let them fight it out.

Good grief, what a hopeless mess.
