Etiquette

DP Etiquette

First rule: Don't be a jackass. Most people are good.

Other rules: Do not attack or insult people you disagree with. Engage with facts, logic and beliefs. Out of respect for others, please provide some sources for the facts and truths you rely on if you are asked for that. If emotion is getting out of hand, get it back in hand. To limit dehumanizing people, don't call people or whole groups of people disrespectful names, e.g., stupid, dumb or liar. Insulting people is counterproductive to rational discussion. Insult makes people angry and defensive. All points of view are welcome, right, center, left and elsewhere. Just disagree, but don't be belligerent or reject inconvenient facts, truths or defensible reasoning.

Black and Brown Progressive Supremacists. Part 2.

This is a post by MC, I made no  changes.

I decided to combine the two. So who are they and how did they get such power? Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, AOC, Crockett, Hakeem Jeffries, and the other squad members. It's really quite simple. The white power structure picked folks of color to speak out. Say things that if even a white progressive said things that these folks did, they would be called racist.

Joy Reid got carried away and tried to take things a bit too far. And what happened? She was shit canned by the white progressive supremacists. Make no mistake, if whitey wanted to get rid of the others I mentioned, they would be out the door. Not right away, but a slow burn.

To Be (or Am), or Not to Be (or Am)...

That is the question.

Like pert near every religion out there, scientific pantheism (SP) has its, let’s call them, “variations.”  We can tweak beliefs just like any other “religion” can, though SP is not officially considered a religion per se.  It’s more a philosophy… but isn’t every religion just that, a philosophy?  An OP for another day, perhaps. 😉

This subject of SP came up yesterday, when I was talking with my stepson.  He’s 58.  The conversation remained cordial throughout, as we got into discussing whether or not I was an atheist.  That reminded me of an event about 20ish years ago.  I said, “And I’m still pissed that you told Tommy (grandkid) I was an atheist, back when Tommy was about four years old and said to me on the phone, “Why are you an atheist, Oma Susan?”  Well, that’ll take one aback.  You don’t expect that from a kid.

How do you even talk to a little 4-ish year-old child about such deep subjects?  As I recall, I said something like, “Well, it’s kinda complicated.”  Then I hastily changed the subject.

Point being, am I an atheist?  Let me do a little ‘splainin’.

To answer that question, I think it depends on one’s personal definition.  To my stepson and his family, born again Christians, I’m an atheist based on their subjective opinion.  It’s true, I don’t believe in their god.  But, that doesn’t make my belief so.  It’s just my belief.  But to them, that makes me an atheist. 🤷‍♀️

I’ve changed a lot, over the past 25 years, when it comes to my religious philosophy.  After a whole lotta lifelong searching, I finally found my niche that suits me.  I identify it as the aforementioned SP.  Here’s a writeup by the World Pantheism dot net site:

Link.

(Love their fractal-like Nautilus logo!)

While I’m not on board 100% with World Pantheism’s SP definition (e.g., wherever the word “God” is used, rather, I’d qualify it as the “God Process,” not a/the “God Entity”), their definition is basically true/in my ballpark; i.e., no supernatural entity.  For me, I hone in on that which fundamentally enables existence.  That’d be the Laws of Physics, in particular, particle physics, the first step (we think) in “creation.”  AFAIK, no particles and forces, no existence (as we know and have come to understand/experience it).

What I like about SC is it’s verifiable.  It’s observable (both through direct observation, or through an artist’s’ rendition/representation, due to no existing instrumentation). It’s personal.  It’s experience-able (coined a new word there).  It's here and now, not there and later.  The "power" of particle physics is, well, all-powerful (I'd say the ultimate power).  No doubt about that one.

Question: So, what do you think?  Am I an atheist?  Do/Would you consider me one?  Explain.

Enquiring minds like mine want to know.

Just who are the Supremacists? Part 1.

This is a post by MC. I made no changes.
During the Biden Harris years we heard this. White Supremacists. On and off that was the main topic. Russia attacks Ukraine, White Supremacists. China threatening Taiwan. White Supremacists. Inflation goes to almost 10%. White Supremacists. Get the picture?

I've been getting emails asking me this. Who are you talking about when you mention White, Black, and Brown Progressive Supremacists? Today I'll cover just the White Progressive Supremacists.

They're White folk who feel that only they can fix what's wrong in their (minority neighborhoods) communities. White folks tell minorities where to live, how to vote, and what political candidates to support. And when especially black folks who don't follow those orders, they're called names. Oreo stands out.

Part 2 will cover Black Progressive Supremacists.

A conservative dips a toe in enemy territory water

A metaphor for American politics

An introduction
The post below is written by MC. I think he owns and runs the politics site I recently started posting at, Looking at the world. His philosophy for his posts, at least for politics, is that his posts will be no more than two paragraphs. That's something I don't understand. Also, either MC or the people he interacts with sees (or both?) Dissident Politics as "a website that's so far left, they left the country and Democracy". That's something else I do not understand.

For context, my most recent post at LATW, Propaganda wars: Is America a democracy?, laid out evidence indicating that the US is a democracy. I wrote and posted about American democracy because two people at LATW called me a liar for referring to the US as a democracy. I dislike being called a liar. If I'm not mistaken, MC told me they weren't calling me a liar, so I was very confused about that. Still am confused.

MC views posting here in what some see as "enemy territory" to be an experiment. I consider me posting at LATW to be an experiment. Both of us are in experiment mode. My experiment there so far has pounded two things home, both of which I already understood but got sledgehammer reinforced anyway.

One is that the mindset and reality that the American left and right see is vastly different and incompatible. Deep, emotional disagreement is unavoidable.

The other is that left ↔ right communications is (a) very difficult, delicate and easily derailed, and (b) getting at the fact, truth and/or reasoning basis for deep disagreement, i.e., reaching stasis (mutual understanding), is extremely difficult. Changing minds is, as one would expect, basically impossible. Just understanding reasons for disagreement is damned hard. So hard that it bodes ill for our democracy.

Believe it or not, American politics has degraded to a point where just trying to understand the empirical and/or rational basis for political disagreement can easily be seen as an attack or insult, and so can expressing an honestly held opinion. Getting to stasis is difficult and rare.

MC'c post

MC writes:
Up until about a month or so I did not know that this website existed. For those who don't know, I'm a Conservative. Not a MAGA, or a Moderate but a Conservative who leans very right. Do I agree with President Trump? Voted for him three times. When he first ran there were 16 Republicans. He was my 15th choice. Only one worse than him was my former governor John Kasich. I agree with the policies but not the man personally.

I made Germaine a moderator on a website that I administrate. He makes some great points, but so far we agree to disagree. Do you need thick skin to come into a website that's 99.9999999% Right? Just like the numerous emails I get that tell me I'm crazy for coming to a website that's so far left, they left the country and Democracy.

So let's see how this plays out. In closing, If I continue to write here, My articles won't be this long. I'm one who feels that if you don't get it in the first or second paragraph, you won't get it in a twenty paragraph article.
